Curly Hill Campsite & Centre celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2025.

The land upon which Curly Hill Campsite & Centre is situated was donated to Wharfedale Scouts by local businessman Colonel Maufe in 1950.

Over the intervening period it has developed into a highly popular campsite & residential centre used by scouts, guides, schools, and other community organisations.

Many thousands of young people have benefitted from the Colonel’s generosity enabling them to experience the outdoors with great views over Ilkley and the Moors. We are expecting over 4000 visitors this year!

The site is managed by a small team of dedicated volunteers who undertake regular maintenance of the centre and grounds. Jeremy I, lead volunteer said “ we are keen to welcome some new volunteers who act as host for our many visitors as well as help with general upkeep. If you are interested and would like further information please e mail curlyhillmanager@wharfedalescouts.org.uk or visit our website

To celebrate our special anniversary, we had a a free community event over the weekend of Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 September. Members of the public dropped in for a tour of the site and to participated in some outdoor activities.”

We look forward to seeing you at Curly Hill!
